"Just wanted to say many thanks for arranging that afternoon session for the ... team. They all enjoyed it and have been talking today about some of the things they learned. They mentioned it on the team blog on the website yesterday too. So thank you for organising and conducting the session, it was very valuable and exactly addressed the thoughts we discussed at the end of last year."

"Just a quick note to say how impressed I was with the training yesterday. I felt that the training provider knew her subject well and made the learning process easy and fast. I felt like I learned a lot in a relatively short time and in a very hands on manner."
Brand development programmes
For too long media owners have focused their efforts along operational lines, arranging training into functional silos - sales, editorial, management, etc.
The digital age is changing the way we all behave and ETC is the first training provider to cater for the whole brand, rather than just the website, magazine, event or radio station.
In its simplest form this may mean updating and reskilling a large team, or whole business unit. Or the business plan may call for everyone to be taken through an identical learning process to ensure consistency and true knowledge sharing.
ETC regularly arranges high-impact Team Days and brand programmes for some of the world's most successful media organisations.
Why not find out how this could work for your business?
Training clinics
A typical ETC Training clinic is a "drop-in" session hosted by an expert trainer, organised into brief, intense, one-to-one sessions with selected participants.
We look at the specific issues facing each person, so they benefit from immensely valuable coaching and expert input.
Our Digital clinics are extremely popular, providing one-hourly consultancy slots for anyone to attend who's facing a specific content problem, whether they're journalists, editors, managers, creatives or production executives.

"I just wanted to write and let you know that the clinic I did with Becky really helped improve our web figures. Our unique users went up by around 3,000 in one month while page impressions increased by 25,000. I felt inspired that I could really make a difference to the website, despite our limited design template. Many thanks to Becky and the HR team for organising such a good training course!"

Coaching and mentoring
Coaching is a highly effective, incredibly focused resource for managers and team members alike, especially when budgets are tight and time is limited.
At the outset the client and ETC coach agree and define the goals that need to be achieved. These can be anything from "learn to manage that difficult writer" to "introduce new working practices" or "implement a brilliant re-design for the site".
A strategy is created to achieve and implement these goals, mapping the most effective routes for fulfilling them, and exploring all the hurdles that may get in the way. The coach is joint custodian of this vision with the client and provides mentoring, support and on-going encouragement.
Coaching can also prevent tricky situations developing and minimises their negative impact once they have.
Coaching can take place face-to-face, over the telephone, via email, or - usually - a combination of all three.

"Nice to hear from you - since the course things have been running a lot better...We had two training sessions in the week following the course. Then at the end of the last issue, we sat down and went through the work he'd done for the issue. I also set up a training session with him with our production editor, to show him the editorial process and what happens to his words once they are picked up by the art desk. We're reviewing his work on a monthly basis with a view to him having control of the section the issue after next. So far it's working well - and I'm managing to find time to do my own work as well."

Integration
The challenge
This global magazine publisher wanted to integrate their print and online brands to improve synergy, efficiency and competitive advantage.
The solution
ETC designed and delivered a series of interactive workshops to whole brand teams, focusing on the working reality and benefits of integration. Topics included:
- Planning, schedules and deadlines
- Roles and responsibilities
- Writing for page and screen
- Cross promotion
- Online news and features
- Growing and extending the brand
The result
The effect was "immediate and far-reaching", with hugely clarified roles, improved working practices and a shared vision which boosted team morale and motivation levels.
Remote, not isolated
The challenge
Specialist media owner with magazines, exhibitions and websites across a variety of consumer markets. Many of these products relied upon freelance contributors and small specialist teams, with several distributed across a wide geographic area. Our client wanted to improve and harmonise standards of work without the potential disruption of a centralised training programme.
The solution
ETC was commissioned to create a suite of tailored E-learning modules, to work alongside traditional face-to-face learning workshops. The resulting programme of modules and workshops covers every aspect of creating and managing print and web content.
The result
Team identity and co-operation was strengthened; remote workers felt they were given the same learning opportunities as their colleagues; and skills were measurably improved across the board at a fraction of the cost of a traditional training programme.
All for one, one for all
The challenge
This large, ambitious and fast-growing media owner realised that success had also fragmented the existing corporate culture and team bonds, with discreet working groups potentially suffering from a lack of cohesive focus, hindered by apparent weaknesses in the internal communication process.
The solution
Alongside senior editors and managers, ETC designed and delivered a challenging and far-reaching portfolio of Team Days, each focusing on a particular aspect of operations or content, and each attended by the whole brand content team.
The result
The Team Days were an instant antidote to previously strained communications, with an extraordinary level of motivation and commitment generated as a direct result. The products were improved; processes streamlined; teams bonded; new skills were developed; all within an open and supporting corporate culture that involved everyone.
360 degree learning
The challenge
This pioneering communications consultancy wanted to improve and develop staff skills, motivation, loyalty and engagement, while maintaining a unique business proposition and competitive market position.
The solution
Close consultation and detailed training needs analysis allowed ETC to build a face-to-face training programme across all levels and functions of the business. The programme is presented and managed as a long-term, on-going learning resource for the whole organisation.
The result
Greater staff motivation; stronger teams and clearer management direction are all direct and immediate results of this exciting programme. Additional benefits include a sharper business proposition; elevated levels of client service and a shared, empowering vision throughout the business.
