Journalism Skills - Advanced Training Courses

More experienced writers and editors sometimes lose out on training and the motivation it provides. Our Advanced Journalism Skills courses give more senior journalists an opportunity to really focus on their reporting, writing, interviewing and subbing skills, away from the pressures of day-to-day work.


Interviewing Training (1 day course)

The Interviewing course is ideal for journalists with at least two years' experience, who need the tools to get a great scoop.

Experienced interviewers benefit from the opportunity to see and hear how their technique works through telephone and videotaped exercises. The training session also offers them the opportunity to experiment with different interview techniques.

Feature Writing Training (1 day course)

The Feature Writing course is ideal for journalists with at least two years' feature writing experience who wish to stretch their skills and experiment with different styles and techniques to maintain reader interest.

Journalists can get into ruts without realising it. Analysing features and experimenting with different styles and techniques in this session allows writers to take a step back from their own work and see where changes might improve it.

Subbing Training (1 day course)

The Subbing course is ideal for sub editors with around two years' experience.

Experienced subs can benefit from a day to focus on best practice. This training session looks at how good subbing can lift copy while maintaining standards.

Style Training (1 day course)

The Style course is ideal for journalists with at least two years' experience who want to tighten their use of language and generally polish their writing.

Style defines the voice of a publication or website. In this course session delegates focus on how to create style and use it as a tool for meeting reader requirements. They identify and practise writing techniques to refresh and polish styles used across all sections of the publication or website.

News Writing Training (1 day course)

The News Writing course is ideal for journalists with at least one years' experience of news writing.

Experienced news writers benefit from the chance to discuss frequently encountered problems. This training session is designed to stretch able writers.
